Chemako – ‘Chemako’ . Guitar, bass & drums coming from different cultural and musical experiences, converging to an explosive and fascinating synergy which let them be one of the most appreciated band in Italian blues scene – but not only.
Gianfranco “French” Scala with his guitar find in rythm section, made up in 1993 by Roberto Re (bass) and Stefano Bertolotti (drums) a rich soil where is possible to nurture his expressive and catchy guitar-playing style. The outcome is a pure and essential sound, without frills but tough and involving.
Chemako it’s not only an ensemble of three musicians but rather a single musical organism in a continuous evolution which comped with great satisfaction some giants of american music for istance Guy davis, Flaco Jimenez, Eric Bibb and the project also boasts record featuring with Blind Boys of Alabama and Charlie Musselwhite

During october 2011, when the fog started to impregnate the Po valley, Chemako found again a long-time friend: Marcello Milanese a real bluesman, with a proven experience, and also an engraver and a drawer, a complete artist; “born on the left river of the tanaro” probably because, on summer of ’73, there was no place in Mississippi’s area hospitals. The contribution of his warm and deep voice along with his inseparable guitar became a crucial element of the band.
Let me tell you something about Chemako: they’re great friends, musicians, with music glued to themselves, they’re made of the same imaginary matter constituting they’re music. One unique indissoluble small part of soul arising out of their sensibility and years of listening, rehearsals, concerts, madness and drinks, happiness e sadness. Al this stuff and much more for just one reason: passion for blues.

There would be many things to say about the misuse of this term, but certainly blues is an emotion once you feel it you can’t leave it. It’s a subtle and attentive drug that you can’t stop to use to feel alive. There are no compromises and no shortcuts: you got to play it and sing it to understand you exists., to feel good and, in the meantime, making other people feel good, I mean people listening at you: in case they know things or whatever they don’ know.
Nowadays there would be many things that should be known, but sometimes is enough listening at Red Diamond Train, Fallin’ Star, the beautiful interpretation of George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass or the vocal pathos in Let It Burn Wild, just to come back to breathe. I believe this first CD by Chemako it useful also for these things. Sincere music, made by true people, coming from the deepness of their soul, just to reach every listener’s heart, so audience could feel joy, dance, reflect but also find a loophole. Jimmy Ragazzon Cà del Bruno, 29 dicembre 2011.
